As part of my mission to detox my life, I started by cleaning up my toiletries as well as what my family and I ate. So much of what we put on our bodies is incredibly toxic. Over the last seven years, I’ve made a few important swaps:
1. Deodorant:
Aluminium in deodorants is repeatedly linked to serious illnesses. Ditch aerosols with aluminium, plastic, and anti-perspirants for chemical-free organic alternatives.
2. Oral Care:
Fluoride is a known hormone disruptor and neurotoxin. It affects brain development, is associated with cognitive decline (Alzheimer’s), disrupts hormone regulation, and contributes to thyroid dysfunction. Replace fluoride-based toothpaste with a toxic-free option, scrape your tongue daily, and try coconut oil pulling for healthier teeth.
3. Hair:
The ingredients in shampoos and hairsprays can be shocking—full of carcinogens and toxic chemicals that we apply directly to our scalps and inhale. Switch to organic, SLS-, SLES-, and paraben-free alternatives.
4. Make-Up:
Our make-up often contains carcinogens and hormone disruptors, applied directly to our skin—our largest organ. Choose clean, organic brands if you feel the need to wear make-up.
Remember, detoxing your life starts with small, conscious changes. Every swap matters!
